Beyond South Asia

The Indo-Pacific region consists of the Indian Ocean and western facilities and is home to some of the fastest-growing economies and key global shipping lanes. However, why does Bangladesh, a South Asia country, incline towards the Indo-specific strategy, and does the region deserve its collaboration and participation in the strategic plan as one of its members? Basically, the reasons are Bangladesh's significant strategic location in proximity to the Bay of Bengal and at the confluence of the major three rivers, its borders surrounded by India and serving as a gateway to both South and Southeast Asia, and its friendly ties with the United States and the other members of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) and many European countries. The strategic relationship Bangladesh is going to build up with this region is being pursued by the United States and its partners to encounter China. But Bangladesh always seeks to implement the non-aligned foreign policy dictum, "friendship to all, malice to none." For the formulation of a draft of the strategic outlook, it emphasises its objective for a secure and peaceful region. On the other hand, Bangladesh's relations with China are significantly important because China provides infrastructure loans and arms supplies to Bangladesh. Even though Bangladesh embraces the Indo-specific strategy, it makes attempts to placate China. Its participation in regional groupings such as the Bay of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and its engagement with participation in the India Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Ocean Naval Symposiums highlight its desire to engage in this region and enhance its economic growth beyond South Asia. And because of its location in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, a part of the Indo-Pacific is vulnerable to security concerns due to pirates and maritime terrorism. And it is also able to extend its partnership with key countries in this region (India, Japan, and Australia) to ensure peace and stability and to get the economic benefits offered by this region.

Why Tiktok should not be banned

I start my writing by putting a question forward. Why tiktck is used for and is gaining intense popularity with the youth. Basically, in the globalisation era, communication and entertainment are now at our fingertips, and tiktok is a medium to do so. It's obviously beneficial to us, but what are the more concerning issues with tiktok? Our youth generation are gaining to addicted to this app for getting popularity so fast .  We all recall Apu Vai, a member of an adolescent gang known to nearly millions of followers through this medium for his strange hairstyle and distorted use of Bengali words. The recent ban on TikTok has raised a debate in the US. Tiktok, owned by the Bytedance company in China, is accused of leaking all the information to ChiNA. But according to the CEO of Tiktok, Bytedance is not an agent of China, and there is no evidence against this strong claim. The CEO of Tiktok was grilled and testified before the US House Energy and Commerce Committee. There, inarticula...

crying need for de-dollarization

Dollarization means the full reliance on the US dollar in the country’s economy. Bangladesh's main source of income comes from garment exports to the United States, which is the country's largest buyer. Bangladesh imports most of its oil from the Middle East, and so for the import of oil diversification and a high price on the oil market for the sprawling war between Russia and Ukraine, Bangladesh could not direct import from Russia, a lucrative oil market with a competitive price for a reduction in the cost of oil and transportation, but it may be one of the reasons for US sanctions on our garment sectors. Following the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Bangladesh considered purchasing oil from a third party, India, even though it wou...
